SUNNYVALE, CALIF. -- August 19, 2003 --AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced that leading commercial application software developers Discreet, Livermore Software Technology Corp (LSTC) and Solid Edge from EDS PLM Solutions have completed software validation for the AMD64 platform.

Customers can now take advantage of improved 32-bit performance, as well as 64-bit compatibility, in digital content creation, computer- aided engineering, and computer-aided design software.

“For the many intricate gaming, simulation and engineering applications available today, AMD provides users the processing power to breeze through the most demanding activities and workloads,” said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager of AMD’s Microprocessor Business Unit. “The AMD Opteron™ processor offers outstanding power for optimal software performance − giving users greater creative freedom with fewer system limitations.”

“Discreet software on the AMD64 platform will allow our 3-D artists and game developers to run a variety of 32-bit applications with the ability to tap 64-bit power as needed,” said Jeff Yates, Director of 3-D Software Development at Discreet. “DCC applications are allowing users to reach new and improved levels of creativity. AMD is helping us keep up with this rapidly evolving industry, providing customers the increased processing performance and scalability that applications are demanding.”

"LSTC customers using AMD Opteron processor-based systems will be able to take advantage of electronic testing and simulation in a mixed computing environment that natively supports both 32- and 64-bit applications,” said John O. Hallquist, president of LSTC. “Customers will have the advantages of increased accuracy, shorter simulation time, and improved overall performance.”

“Designers and engineers are transitioning from 2-D drafting tools to a 3-D solid modeling environment that requires additional processing power,” said Dan Staples, director of the Solid Edge Business Unit at EDS PLM Solutions. “With AMD64 technology, our customers will be able to save design time, visualize and present stylized prototypes, and increase productivity with the power and performance of the AMD Opteron and upcoming AMD Athlon™ 64 processors.”
