SUNNYVALE, CA -- March 6, 2003 --AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced that Gartner/Dataquest Worldwide Quarterly PC Statistics 4Q/02 show AMD processor-based desktop and mobile computers increased worldwide unit market share to 19 percent among buyers of Windows®-based PCs in 2002.

“Despite the difficult economic climate and very competitive market conditions in the technology industry, PCs based on AMD’s industry-leading microprocessors gained market share between 2001 and 2002,” said Rob Herb, executive vice president and chief sales and marketing officer for AMD. “We attribute this success to the most diverse portfolio of computer processors in our history, now led by the highest-performing desktop PC processor in the world today, the AMD Athlon™ XP processor 3000+.

“AMD doubled its worldwide market share among buyers of Windows-based mobile PCs in 2002,” Herb said. “With the upcoming launches of the low-voltage mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor and the 64-bit AMD Opteron™ processor for servers and workstations, AMD will expand into the thin and light mobile PC market and the 4- and 8-way enterprise server market, strengthening AMD’s portfolio of computer processors across new markets.”

AMD’s efforts to target emerging markets delivered market share gains from 2001 to 2002. Among buyers of Windows-based desktop and mobile computers in Latin America, AMD’s market share increased from 16 percent to 28 percent between 2001 and 2002. In the Asia/Pacific region, which does not include Japan, AMD’s market share among buyers of Windows-based desktop and mobile computers grew from 11 percent to 15 percent between 2001 and 2002.
