Industry Embraces 64-Bit Computing Vision
Microsoft, which today announced the release of a beta version of Windows XP 64-Bit Edition, joined AMD to articulate its vision for 64-bit computing and reiterate its commitment to deliver a 64-bit operating system for desktop systems. <br><br>

Computer manufacturer HP plans to ship systems in the fourth quarter of 2003. Fujitsu, Fujitsu-Siemens and Packard Bell announced system availability for the AMD Athlon 64 processor, and were joined by more than 150 manufacturers and infrastructure partners worldwide.

PC retailer Best Buy will sell AMD Athlon 64 processor-based systems in addition to the “processor-in-a-box” product.

The AMD Athlon 64 FX processor is available in the FX-51 series, and is priced at $733 in 1,000-unit quantities. FX is the class designator and the number 51 is the series designation.
