Athlon MP 2400+ vs Xeon 2.8 GHz

First off, Intel is rapidly accelerating their Xeon family. While Intel has made very few public comments about AMD's Hammer core architecture, the recent acceleration of the Xeon family looks very suspicious in timing to take some of the wind away from AMD. While the Xeon already held the performance lead in the multiprocessor space, they are pushing forward with a new Socket-604 Xeon processor family which runs at a faster 533 MHz front side bus. In addition, the Xeon now has two new dual-channel DDR chipsets to run on to get additional performance, the Intel E7501 and E7505. Topping it off, Intel has been pushing down their pricing for their lower speed (sub 2.6 GHz) models in order to compete with the Athlon MP on a price/performance level.
