Windows per Hammer ?

Oggi sono apparsi per la Rete alcuni rumors molto interessanti: sembra proprio che Microsoft stia sviluppando un sistema operativo ed un compilatore (Visual C++ Net 7.0) contenente codice ottimizzato per la futura serie di processori a 64Bit di AMD.

Nine of the header strings for Visual C++ Net (7.0) contain the string AMD64.
It's obvious from the error message page that Microsoft has at least a partially working compiler and operating system for AMD64 from the above.
Of course, all of this begs one very important question. If you've the choice of writing an application for the Itanic or the Hammer, do you really wish to create both?
And where does that leave us all in the area of compatibility? Perhaps our scoop about Intel's secret X86-64 plan is more than just a panicky back up plan, as we'd thought before.
